Team Human Clothing: Human Fest

As our brand grows internationally, we are continuously finding ways to become more involved in our community and take action towards the betterment of society. As many of you may already know, we are releasing a new clothing brand called Team Human. In our mission to impact the world through Music, Art, Fashion, and Action, we are bringing all these elements together and hosting Human Fest at Mercy Lounge on Tuesday, November 5th.

Human Fest will be the official release party for Team Human clothing. Team Human Clothing melds fashion and charity by donating a portion of each sale to local charities. Team Human’s mission is simple: Make it cool to make a difference. Human Fest will feature a charity raffle of limited edition Team Human merchandise signed by members of the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators. Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Nashville based charities CarryOn Records and Linda’s Hope.

Naked Without Us

We’re excited to announce our participation with Naked Without Us at the newly renovated 12th & Porter Nashville. Naked Without Us is a fashion show featuring 8 local designers and boutiques, also performances by The Cold Stars, Blackfoot Gypsies, The Hollywood Kills, Strooly, and more. We encourage you to join us at this special event, as a portion of the ticket sales goes to help Carry On Records.

Carry On Records is a non-profit startup founded in Nashville, Tennessee, Music City, that aims to give those currently undergoing cancer treatment the opportunity to write and record their own music in a real recording studio.

Many clinical trials have shown the benefits of music therapy for short term pain, and some studies have even suggested that music may help decrease the overall intensity of a patient's discomfort during cancer treatments such as chemo therapy.

Carry On was established by four young people from Nashville, Tennessee with a common dream: To one day give people across the country who are battling cancer the opportunity to find comfort in the music they love, and to express themselves with the music they write.

There is no better place than Music City, USA to make a dream a reality. It will start here, and with your help it can begin now.

Starting a business is an expensive task, and starting a nonprofit is no different. While Carry On does their part to minimize overhead and  reduce the general expense associated with starting a nonprofit, they need your help to make Carry On Records a reality. 100% of your donation will go directly to bottom line expenses associated with Carry On Records.

Carry On Records seeks to raise $3,000 to assist in offsetting costs associated with this phase of a startup, including critical marketing material such as a website, promotional pieces for distribution to hospitals, doctors offices and clinics, and legal expenses.

It is our goal to host a Christmas benefit concert in December featuring Carry On Records artists and benefiting Carry On Records, so that we may continue to do what we love: help people fight cancer with music.

The Laura Reed

To say that Laura Reed can sing is a major understatement.

One could probably attribute all kinds of reasons behind Laura’s incredible voice---one that has the uncanny ability to sound truly distinctive while simultaneously being reminiscent of artists such as Erykah Badu, Nelly Furtado, and the late Amy Winehouse.

Perhaps it’s because she was born in the Motherland (South Africa, to be exact) or that she grew up in the Southern hospitality of Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. Or maybe it’s due to the influence of some of her greatest musical inspirations; including Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill. It also might be because of just how willing she is to be artistically vulnerable, both on the stage and off, as she strives to both learn and teach about love and life. All the while evolving into the artistic force she’s destined to become---something that translates very clearly in her voice as well as her lyrics. The Yacht Club Company got the unique opportunity to not only create here merchandise but also learn more about her passion for music.

When asked, Laura always says that she makes Soul music. To Laura, soul music is more than just a genre, but also a source and destination. She strives to create honest, uplifting, and soulful music that is relatable, empowering, and vulnerable when it needs to be. She writes very personally and often writes songs filled with advice that she needs to hear. All of the elements of her music have to be complimented by a solid groove and dynamic arrangement. The music Laura creates is often referred to as a Soul/Pop hybrid, fusing elements of both, in what can be catchy, soulful, anthems.

Laura’s mission for her music has always been the same, spread healing, love, positivity, and empathy through music. She wants people to leave her shows and listen to her music and feel inspired; feeling part of something bigger than themselves and feel joy. Music is one of the best medicines, and can often put our lives into perspective in a single song. That is what she strives for. And for that we salute her!

The Black Cadillacs

The BlackCadillacs are a bluesbased indie rock band from Knoxville, TN. With members from each of Tennessee's major cities, the state's famous sounds are well represented. Nashville’s recent brand of rock n’ roll revival takes center stage, but a wash of authentic Memphis bluessoul and a tinge of Knoxville country distill into a sound as rich and Southern as it is alive.
Alongside their native influences, The Black Cadillacs are heavily impacted by rock history. "Bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Pink Floyd laid the foundation for us. With the success of artists and bands like Jack White and My Morning Jacket, it’s easy to see that blues-based rock n’ roll still resonates with audiences,” says guitarist, John Phillips. "We were inspired by the same bands; we’re just trying to keep those sounds alive in our own way."
From Memphis to Knoxville, Mick Jagger to Jack White, The Black Cadillacs' sophomore release, Run, pulls together more than 40 years worth of influence over this 11track offering.
"Run is a veritable tapestry of lush blues and Southern soul with Phillips and guitarist Matthew Hyrka weaving varicolored webs of texture and melody over the solid foundation of bassist Philip Anderson and drummer Adam Bonomo," says Metro Pulse's Mike Gibson.
Released in June 2012, Run represents the band’s attempt to capture the dynamic energy of its live performance. The instrumentation was tracked live with the entire band in one room, just as the songs were written and perfected on the road.
The Black Cadillacs’ live set is where this wellorchestrated yet explosive blend comes to life. Playing more than 100 dates in the past year, including sets at SXSW as a Red Bull Sound Select artist, The Black Cadillacs use raw emotion in frontman Will Horton’s voice to energize an audience and crank up the sound. "The group displayed a repertoire (old and new) of grooves, rockers and ballads," Red Bull Sound Select says of their SXSW performances. "They are often best when Horton showcases his voice over spare instrumentation the connection is undeniable.”
